In a bid to accelerate the development of future leaders of Australia’s digital health industry, the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre (DHCRC) is offering fully funded scholarships to RMIT Online’s brand new Graduate Certificate in Digital Health.

Eight scholarships, valued at $10,800 each, are on offer for individuals employed in a healthcare setting and who meet the broader eligibility requirements.

DHCRC CEO Dr Terry Sweeney CMG said the scholarships demonstrated the organisation’s commitment to capacity building and developing digital health as an industry for Australia.

“There is an array of talented individuals who are already working in the healthcare sector with the potential to be our future leaders, reshaping healthcare through emerging technologies and the deployment of virtual care,”

“We’re proud to make these fully funded scholarships available through a renowned academic institution launching a first-of-its kind post-graduate course.

“We look forward to working with the successful recipients to fill a growing skills gap in the health sector and create a national footprint for digital health, complementing the federal government’s new digital economy strategy, while also improving health outcomes for the community.” Dr Sweeney said.

The first intake for the Graduate Certificate in Digital Health is in July 2021, running for a duration of 12 months through RMIT Online. The course was co-created through RMIT, DHCRC, Telstra Health and Amazon Web Services.

RMIT Online CEO Helen Souness commented on the exciting opportunity available to scholarship applicants to access a course that was co-designed with industry.

“Advances in technology have the potential to transform the healthcare industry and patient care, and that’s why we’ve worked with leading industry partners to develop the curriculum for our Graduate Certificate in Digital Health,” Ms Souness said.

“These scholarships are a tremendous opportunity for healthcare workers to sharpen their skillset further and embrace the lifelong learning philosophy that RMIT Online has been founded on.

“We believe this constant refreshing of skills in technological areas critical to the industry will be paramount to improving patient outcomes and delivering superior healthcare for the digital era.”

Scholarship applicants must be employed in a healthcare setting and have successfully completed two digital health credentials that are a credit pathway to the Graduate Certificate.
