How Marissa remained industry-relevant and achieved career success through RMIT Online's Saleforce course

According to a recent study, approximately 375 million workers around the world will need to learn new skills to match the shifting workforce by 2030

Today’s evolving job market and ever-changing technology means that business professionals need to be proactive to ensure their career is keeping up. This involves adapting by embracing continuous learning to expand viable skillsets, knowledge and abilities.

According to a recent study, approximately 375 million workers around the world will need to learn new skill sets to match the shifting workforce and the rise of automation by 2030.

Salesforce and its ecosystem alone have predicted that it will create 402 million additional jobs worldwide by 2024, and along with it, a significant demand for people equipped with the right skills.

This knowledge gap inspired Marissa to learn more about it by taking an RMIT online course to pivot her career and achieve success.

“I was able to take the RMIT Online Salesforce Administrator short course with my employer’s assistance and close that knowledge gap.”

Meet Marissa Cookson. Despite working in technical roles within the digital industry for a decade, she found that her first use of Salesforce products presented a challenge due to a knowledge and skills gap. It felt like taking a leap into uncharted territory.

“Within a MarTech team, I integrated pre-existing Marketo and Salesforce orgs with no Salesforce or CRM knowledge at the time.”

From this experience, she decided it was time to find an industry-focused institution and learn more about Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

“I was able to take the RMIT Online Salesforce Administrator short course with my employer’s assistance and close that knowledge gap.”

What is it like Studying Online? Marissa’s RMIT Online Experience

Marissa saw this as an opportunity to develop her skills, explore a new field and future-proof her career. Through RMIT’s online courses, she was able to enjoy the convenient flexibility of studying in her own time and attend weekly webinars led by industry experts.

Having a full-time job, she opted to undertake the 6 week course during the weekends which was ideal for her busy lifestyle. “I found the RMIT Online course engaging as it was a mix of hands-on experience in Salesforce and educational material on Trailhead, which is Salesforce’s learning platform.”

She was also given a task to build a company from the ground up in Sales Cloud which was a great experience for Marissa since she was able to fully immerse herself into her learning by solving a real-life scenario as a Salesforce Admin.

After completing the course in March 2019, she felt more comfortable with Sales Cloud Lightning mode. But this was not enough for Marissa!

“The Salesforce Admin certification made me realise that it was also important for me to familiarise myself with Sales Cloud Classic features as well. So I went on to further study to prepare for the exam.”

As a direct result of finishing the Salesforce Admin course with RMIT Online and passing the Admin exam a few months later, she secured Salesforce client projects which then catapulted her career opportunities forward.

“I am now a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Consultant, and I can safely say that having the RMIT Salesforce Admin short course on my LinkedIn profile helped me get this job and discover a successful career in Salesforce.”

With more companies and employees both acknowledging the importance of upskilling, Marissa’s RMIT Online experience provided her a way to keep up with market innovations and made her a relevant contributor in the industry.

Challenging yourself to learn a new skill, just like Marissa, promotes mindset growth, continuous learning and career development.
